Just got a mega-haul of 72 and 30 pin SIMM's!

I bought them from a local computer dealer for $30. Maybe it wasn't a great deal but the guy said he would take $25. I gave $30 because I had a 10 and a 20. :-)

That's a lot of memory. Do you have plans for hardware that can use them?

DRAM seems like a pain to me when there is SRAM - but I've got tons of old memory modules too, would be nice to be able to use them.

I'm building some old-school DOS machines. Currently, I'm building a P2 machine because that's what I have at the moment. I plan on building a 486 and possibly a 386 too. Also, I plan on getting an IBM 5150 this year. So lots of DOS goodness and much of that hardware uses 72 pin SIMM's.

Plus, some audio cards such as the AWE32 can use additional 30 pin SIMM's.

To me, $30 was worth possibly having all the 30/70 pin RAM I would ever need....forever. :-)

An Apple ][+ is an odeschool DOS machine. Most people don't build those, but some do.

A P2 is just Wintel stuff. Nobody builds those, they assemble them. :)

I'm one of those that do. I have several (well, IIe's and others). Nearly 70 "vintage" computers in my collection so I understand old-school DOS machines. ;-)

That only applies if Windows is on that machine. *IF* I install Windows on my P2 machine, it will be Windows 3.11. So it would, technically, be a Wintel machine but that's OK. I'm building these for some retro gaming.

I just purchased an sealed DOS 6 package that I will be using as the main OS. Unfortunately, it's on 5.25" floppies so I Ill need to get a drive for those. All of the 5.25" drives I have are for Apples and Commodores.

I think I have some gently-used DOS 6.22 3.5" floppies. You want?

I'm gonna dig it out and just snail mail it to you when I find the time. When you get it in your hands, you can decide for yourself if you would like to reimburse me for more than just the postage.

I also found my old ][+ case (no motherboard or power supply, just the case, lid and keyboard). We talked last month about my parents moving toward your neighborhood ... I'll see if there's room in their mini-van for the Franklin and the ][+ shell. If not, I'm sure that I'll be driving there to visit them one of these days, and I'll be sure to find some room on-board (at least if I make the trip in something bigger than my 1989 Toyota MR2)!
